Then my daughter, who lives in Georgia, phones and tells me that her children are going to school and I am reminded of years ago when I and my six sisters all went to school at the same time. Often it was my job to make the lunches and it soon became a chore. There were always a few complaints about the contents. Rain or snow we walked to a country two room school. Even when a bus took us to high school, we still had to walk almost a mile to the bus stop. Now they almost stop at the front door of today’s students. For my own children, school days meant Ending enough suit able clothes. Of course, we handed-down dresses and shirts but things like shoes and trousers had to be purchased. But, then she married and had two sons. The two room school that I attended was built in the late 1800’s and my grandfather helped to haul ground away from the hand-dug basement. My mother, as a youngster, wait along in the wagon and lost her sun bonnet on one trip. A big furnace was installed in that basement to heat the brick building. There we play ed on rainy days and the ground floor was so dusty dial we almost couldn't see each other as we played tag. Nowadays, they need play ground equipment to keep the children happy. But we had fun simply throwing a ball over the outdoor toilets. School days surely bring back a lot of memories. Since 1903 • Offices • Shops • Equipment Storage • Aircraft Hangers Ida Risser
