A 4- Dale-Pride Blacks Kasmira, exhibited by owner/ breeder Dale E. Hostetler, was named supreme champion Hols tein on Thursday afternoon during the Southeast Championship Hols tein Show at the Kutztown Fairgrounds. Show judge Curtis Day, Ship pensburg, picked the 4-year-old over the open show junior 2-year old, Bridon Supreme Kayla, exhi bited by David aryl Barbara Miller. , Day said the 4-year-old “is a tre mendously well-balanced indivi dual, with correct feet and legs and an udder that is nicely attached to the body.” He said the cow was “beautifully balanced” and she would “produce a lot of milk.” The champion cow, 8-30-90, S: To-Mar Blackstar-ET, D: Dale- Pride Bell Kristin, milks about 92 pounds a day, according to Brian Hostetler. The reserve, 5-8-92, S: Startmore Supreme, D: C Bridon Astro Jet Lydia, bred by Bryan Sayles, according to Jake Kramer, milks about 90 pounds a day. Junior champion of the junior division went to Tara Kocher, Ore Farms Vintage Jasmine, a summer yearling. Reserve went to Jesse Bomgardner, for Loving- Meadows Krystan-TW, a winter yearling. Grand champion junior division went to Jesse Bomgardner, for his 5- Loving Meadows KarealoL Reserve junior division champion went to a junior 3-year old, Loving-Meadows Lover Girl, exhibited by Jay Bomgardner. Pennwood Farms were honored as premier breeders at the Southeast District Dairy Show on Thursday. Hoffines Takes Championship At Manheim EVERETT NEWSWANGER Managing Editor MANHEIM (Lancaster Co.) —A brother and sister team took home the championship hon ors at the Manhiem Fair steer show. Pete Hoffines, 18, had the grand champion from the medium lightweight class, and Amy Hof fines, 16, showed the reserve grand champion. These youths are child ren of Bob and Linda Hoffines from Marietta. In the showmanship contest, John Hess was the winner. Plac ings for the steer show are as fol lows: Not Selling, lightweight, 1. Premier breeder of the South east Dairy Show went to Pen nwood Farms and family. Premier exhibitor went to ReuHel Farms and family. Animal numbers were down by about half this year at the show because of bovine viral diarrhea (BVD). In all, there were a total of 88 animals and about 35 exhibitors.
