Penn State’s multicounty extension unit in the central Sus quehanna Valley has scheduled the next set of pasture discussion meetings for dairy and livestock producers. The pasture discussion group meetings are for people interested in improving or intensifying their grazing management. The meet ings are held on area farms utiliz ing intensive grazing programs. Discussion centers on grazing management strategies, successes, and problems. The next dairy pasture session will be on Friday, August 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at the farm of Jon Ockcr near Mifflinburg. Ocker has utilized intensive grazing for several years and is planning to go to seasonal milking. From Rt. 45 in Union County, take Grove Road south (near the Case IH dealer east of Mifflinburg). This is a beef cow/calf operation own ed and managed by John Hopkins. Hopkins has used intensive graz ing for several years and is trying to convert some land to pasture with a minimalist approach. Hop kins also puts broilers on pasture after cattle. From Rt. 487 in Co lumbia County several miles north of Orangeville, turn right at Hick ory Joe’s Restaurant and go to ward Asbury for 1.6 miles and Forks Farm is on the left.
