In 1973, the couple ceased
market sales and sold the turkeys
and chickens in the building where
the turkeys were dressed.
Dave also raised hogs.
“But don’t mention hogs to me.”
he said.
“He almost lost his shirt on
them,” Shirley explained.
Although Dave wastes no love for
hogs, turkeys are a different story.
The. couple raised four sons,
Dave, Phil, Mike, and Don, and
when the sons no longer helped on
the farm, the family stopped rais
ing their own poultry but con
tinued retail sales of it.
It wasn’t until 1988, that Shirley
began to make stuffed chicken
breasts to sell.
People soon began asking for
other entrees. Gradually, Shirley
offered a few more of her home
cooked specialties until the busi
ness now has more than 70 items
available.
Every item but one is freshly
made on the premises. That one is
hamloaf, purchased from a local
meat market. No preservatives,
