Stephen also showed the champion Yorkshire from the fair’s swine breed show. Trostle, who maintains a small Hampshire herd, said the reserve market hog, picked from the heavyweight class, simply wasn’t quite as heavy as the supreme, but had enough muscle in keeping with the needs of the market. The reserve, a 193-pound Hampshire cross, was a gilt shown by Brian Eschbach. Brian, 13, is the son of George and Kathy Stumps Shoemakersvil le. The gilt was obtained at at com mercial sale in Manheim in April. Brian was reserve grand champion about five years ago at the Kutz town Fair Swine Show. Brian, who will attend grade 8 in the Fleet wood Middle School, will show ing at the Oley and Reading fairs. George Stump said that Brian, who once worked at a farm, picked the hog at the Manheim sale. He said that the six-year Berks County 4-H member knows what traits in a potential swine championship to look for. Fitting grand champion went to Anita Manbeck and reserve to Kristen Haas.
