daughter, also named best udder of
the show and best bred and owned
open class animal, was shown by
Dale Hostetler and family, also of
Annville. Last year the Hostetlers
had captured the premier breeder
and exhibitor awards and showed
the reserve grand.
Judge for the shows was Ray
Seidel who said he had wanted to
judge the Lebanon show for a
number of years, because of its
size and quality. Last year there
were more than 2SO entries inthe
Holstein show. This year, of all
breeds, there were about ISO
entries, mostly Holsteins.
Seidel said he was not disap
pointed at all with the quality of the
animals shown and commented on
how, even though the fair’s dairy
show was reduced by half from
normal years, the quality of ani
mals wasn’t reduced at all.
Even though the colored breed
shows, severly reduced in entries
from previous years, demonstrated
high quality animals.
This year, all dairy shows were
held on the last day of the fair,
instead of being spaced out during
the week, to take advantage of the
space availability and times slots.
The supreme champion animal
of the youth shows was also named
immediately following the Hols
tein show.
This year’s supreme champion
was Jay Bomgardner’s reserve
grand champion of the open show,
which was also the grand champ
ion Holstein of the 4-H show. A
senior 3-year-old Deslacs He-
Man-ET daughter. Loving Mea
dows Lover Girl was bred by Jay’s
sister Kynel Himmelberger.
The grand champion FFA Hols
tein was shown by Kurt Hostetler.
Also a Blackstar daughter, Dale-
Pride Black Beauty, a senior
2-year-old, was owned and bred by
Kurt.
The 4-H reserve grand champ
ion was S-year-old Loving-
Meadows karealot, and Astro Jet
daughter shown by Jesse Bom
gardner, while brother Kevin

guin, a Willow Holme Algonguin-
ET daugther, that he owns and

also offers a bull class. The champ
ion bull was a calf shown by Lany
Kennel, DVM, of Ml Joy, who
showed Windy-Knoll-View Pat
rick, a son of James and Nina Bur
dette’s well known Windy-Knoll-
View Ultimate Pala cow and sire
Hanoverhill Starbuck. The Burdet
tes live in Mercersburg.
The reserve champion bull was
M-DGK Blackstar Shay, out of
dam DGK Starbuck Shantel and
sire To-Mar Blackstar, bred by
Melonica Kauffman, of Lebanon.
In addition to the regular show
ing, the Lebanon Fair show offers
a youth best-bred and owned con
test which hinges in part on an ani- '
mal’s show placing, but also on the
completeness, nearness, detail and
accuracy of the accompanying 4-H
project book for the animal.
Amanda Martin, of Annville,
won first place with her outstand
ing project book and her Promise
Lane Melwood Audrey, a home
bred animal out of her also home
