Society Of Farm Women Award Five Scholarships
STRASBURG (Lancaster Co.)
—Five students of home econom
ics and agriculture related courses,
received $lOOO scholarships from
the Flora Black Memorial Scho
larship Fund presented by the Soc
iety of Farm Women of Pennsyl
vania. The 1994 winners are
Richard Bupp, David Creamer,
Amy Fyock, Kristin Groff, and
Christine Habecker.
The Flora Black Memorial
Scholarship Fund, named for the
founder of the Society of Farm
Women of Pennsylvania, was
established in 1960 to help edu
cate girls studying home econom
ics. This was changed this year to
include daughters and sons of
mothers or grandmothers who are
society members, studying home
economics or agriculture related
courses, subjects. The Fund is
supported by sales of a state
cookbook.
RICHARD BUPP: Twentv
David Creams
two-year-old Richard Bupp, son
of Leroy and Joyce Bupp, of
Seven Valleys, is a senior at Penn
State. He has been actively
involved in 4-H for 10 years, both
in dairy and tractor safety. He
plans to utilize new technonlgy
with production methods to max
imize farm profits and minimize
environmental impact Richard’s
grandmother was a past state
president
DAVID CREAMER: Son of
Mark and Denise Creamer of Ber
lin, is 17 and will also attend Penn
State University. He has been
involved with FFA as a reporter
and in various competitions on the
local and state level. He plans to
enter the form of agriculture
known as national resources,
which lies in the conservation of
soils, forests, and water. David is
from Somerset County where his
mother is a society member.
AMY FYOCK: Amy Fyock,
daughter of Dave and Mary Alice
Fyock, Lidtz, is a senior at the
University of Delaware. She is a
fourth-time recipient of the award.
She has been involved with 4-H
for eight years with projects in
sewing, foods, crocheting and
basetry. Her interests will take her
to design custom clothing and
teach sewing at the college level.
Her grandmother is a member of
Society #1 and her great
grandmother Barbara Moore
began Farm Women in Lancaster
County.
KRISTIN .GROFF:
Seventeen-year-old Kristin is the
daughter of Carlton and Carol
Groff of Kirkwood. She plans to
attend Carleton College and study
biology with emphasis on agricul
tural genetics this fall. She was a
member of marching, concert, and
jazz bands in high school. She was
also part of the choir at her church
and high school. Her mother

belongs to Society #3l of Lancas
ter County. Kristin was Miss Sol
anco in 1994.
CHRISTINE HABECKER:
She is a daughter of Mark and
Darlene Habecker, this is her sec
ond time to receive the award.
Christine lives on a dairy farm at
R. D. #3 Palmyra. She is a sopho
more at Penn state University. She
has been in 4-H clubs for eight
years, where she was president
and teen council member. Her
mother belongs to Lebanon Coun
ty Society #l4. Christine is a food
science major where she plans to
obtain a career in either product
development or quality assurance.
June 1,1995 is the deadline for
Christin Habecker
receipt of applications for next
year’s scholarship. Any son or
daughter of a farm women may
ipply every year for the awards
which are based on academic
ichievement, all around rural
interest and need. Persons inter
