Fruit Growers Introduce
ed history of the apple industry in
the county, which blossomed more
than 100 years ago on Noah Shee
ly’s farm between Arendtsville
and Cashtown.
In 1878, Sheely first planted
apple trees on the farm, known for
its famous Round Bam. In order to
process the fruit of the fledgling
industry, C.H. and Emma Mussel
man purchased a bankrupt canning
business in Biglerville in 1907.
The Musselman’s endeavor
became not only the first success
ful canning business in Adams
County, but also the largest suc

August 18, from 10:30 a.m. to
noon, the Walter Nuding Dairy in
Montgomery County will be host
of a pasture lour to explain the
progress and problems of his
2-year-old grazing system.
Milk production for this 20-cow
dairy in 1993 averaged 36 pounds
