Wolff said. “Through this new
program we have already collect
ed and chipped more than 2,400
pounds of empty pesticide con
tainers.”
The state’s pesticide container
recycling program began earlier
this year and container drop-off
points have been designated in
Adams, Franklin, and Lancaster
mentof Eberhard Steiniger, a well
known golf course superintendent.
The actual dedication ceremony
is to be held 11:30 a.m., August 11.
The need for a museum was
conceived by Dr. Joseph Duich,
retired Penn State professor, who
worked hard to accumulate the col
lection of equipment and tools
from the past.

Mascara was instrumental in the
development of modem tools for
use by golf course superinten

1986, he and his son John formed

Park, Florida, a company that

instruments for golf course
superintendents.
The instruments allow superin
tendents to do a better job in moni
toring soil, moisture and nutrient
conditions. The job of a superin
tendent includes raising a variety
of grasses and landscaping plants
and trees and, in doing so, creating
a landscaped, recreational facility.
They also normally manage a work
crew.
Penn State University offers a
highly competitive and well
respected turfgrass management
course whose graduates are almost
all placed as superintendents or
assistant superintendents on golf
courses around the world.
The other man to whom the
museum is being dedicated, Steini
ger was a golf course superinten
dent at Pine Valley Golf Club, in
Clementon, N.J., for 57 years.
Steiniger is well known for con
verting a sand-waste layout with
only scrub pine, into the number
one golf course in the world. He
collaborated with Mascaro on all
of the more than 20 inventions
developed. Steiniger would test
and evaluate the performance of
the equipment.
He also had accumulated an
impressive private collection of
equipment which also is to be on
display at the museum.

HFC FIELD CULTIVATORS
The "heart" of any field cultivator is the shank pivot point. A
"bulked up" shank bracket made of cast ductile iron instead of
the usual formed steel bracket, incorporates a hardened steel
bushing AND a zerk grease fitting to lubricate the pivot point
to reduce wear. The result is thousands of acres of extended
life of the shanks.
