NORTHUMBERLAND
At Swaying Maple Farm in southern Northumberland County, Dale and
Kim Groff and their three sons, Ryan, 20, Kyle, 16, and Joel, 13, farm 200
acres. They have Registered Holstelns and milk 55 cows that average
18,500 lbs. of milk. The Groffs moved from Lancaster County 11 years ago.
Dale believes you need to promote your dairy products and sees the Dairy
of Distinction program as a way to do that. He is involved with the county
nutrient management committee and believes in farm management that
pays attention to the details.

Buff-Del Farms located west of Newport in Perry County has been In the
Fleisher family for nearly 100 years. Today, Lester and Hazel and son Brian
and his wife Amy farm 215 acres and milk 52 Registered Holsteins and ID
grades that average 20,500 m. Brian said the most Important management
practice Is to pay attention to details. You can’t just take care of the cows or
