Laurel Run Farms, operated by Tim and Marlene Peachey, Petersburg,
Huntingdon County, milks about 95 registered Holstelns from tlestall to
pipeline. Current DHIA averages are about 21,500 pounds of milk, 705
pounds protein, and 788 pounds fat. Tim’s father, Glenn, purchased the
farm in the 19505, and Tim purchased the farm In fall 1992. Tim farms the 250
acres of the home farm, and rents another farm adjacent. Included In the
operation is wife Marlene and children Carrie, 8; Tyler, 7; and Rebecca, 4.

At Heron-Run Farm, operated by Willard J. Yoder and family, Hunting
don, plans Include equipment updates to their double-6 milking parlor,
including takeoffs and Indexing, according to Willard. A few years ago, the
farm installed a TMR mixer for the herd, which Includes 155 registered Hols
teins and 150 young stock. Latest DHIA averages are 20,000 pounds of milk,
640 pounds protein, and about 747 pounds fat. Willard’s grandfather pur
chased the farm In the mld-19405, and Willard said they are in the process of
buying It. Willard farms the 450 acres (tillable) farm with wife Betsy and
children Nicole, 6; Janelle, 5; and Joshua, 2, along with Willard’s brother,
Joe.
