Dairy Princesses Represent
Pennsylvania Counties
WILLIAMSPORT (Lycoming
Co) County dairy princesses
from across the state gathered
recently to learn how to do an
effective job promoting the dairy
industry. The three-day training
seminar held at Lycoming College
was a cram course in learning
about the industry and implement
ing ideas to increase dairy product
consumption.
The Pennsylvania Dairy Prin
cess Program began in 1956 when
the Miss Milk Maid Contest was
initiated by the Pennsylvania
Association of Milk Dealers. Since
then, responsibility for the prog
ram changed to the Pennsylvania
Holstein Association, and, later, to
the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion
Services, which maintains an
office in Harrisburg and is coordi
nated by program director Jan
Harding.
Support for the program comes
from dairy farmers through the

come for a dairy farm or a dairy
related background, own dairy ani
mals or have parents employed in
the dairy industry. They must be
single and between the ages of 16
and 24. They must possess the
knowledge, poise, and speaking
ability necessary to cany ount their
many duties as spokespersons for
the dairy industry.

compete for the state dairy prin
cess title on September 24 at Sher
aton Inn-East, Harrisburg.

active in dairy promotion as the
county dairy princesses.
