The Messiah Lutheran Church fellowship hall was a beehive of activity on June 28 as 4-H mem bers of Juniata, Mifflin, and Perry counties demonstrated their sew ing and public speaking talents. The member of the senior divi sion in public speaking who will go on to Penn State for regional competition is Darrell Miller, 13, McVeytown, in 4-H for five years in the sheep and baby beef clubs. His presentation of “What 4-H Has Taught Me” told how he learned to feed and care for his Winners from Juniata, Mifflin, and Perry counties in senior division sewing. animals; that jobs need doing even if he doesn’t like doing them: how to be able to speak in front of a crowd, as he gives project reports at meetings and shows his ani mals; how a business meeting should be held and that the majori ty rules even if he doesn’t agree; patience such as seeing projects through to the end; winning is nice but isn’t everything, and bragging may cause loss of friends; and that the experiences of his 4-H life will no doubt always be with him. Dar rell also did a sample radio spot promoting 4-H. Also receiving a blue ribbon in the public speaking event was Sa mantha Speicher, 12, Lewistown. Since she is in the junior division, she will not be eligible to go on to Penn State this year. Samantha is in her fifth year of 4-H and has an 11-week-old puppy, Orelle, in the Seeing Eye Puppy 4-H Club. The fashion revue showed that there are many talented 4-H mem bers who can sew very well. In the senior division (age 13-18) blue ribbons were won by Shari Book and Judy Geissinger of Juniata County, Donna Fisher and Kim McCalips of Mifflin County, and (Turn to Page B 9) Mifflin County winners in junior division sewing.
