The Marriage Of
A Dairy Princess
(Continued from Page 82)
crs who prepared barbecue ribs
and and chicken, and partly
because the place holds fond
memories of Becky’s affiliation
with 4-H and dairy princess
activities.
The day before the wedding, the
bridal couple helped friends pre
pare the reception decorations.
They rented a helium machine and
filled the balloons. Unfortunately,
helium from the balloons
overnight and the balloons were
lying on the tables. Unknown to
Becky, Fred’s brother discovered
the deflated balloons and found a
church that owned a helium
machine and used it to fill fresh
balloons so that by the lime of the
reception, the balloons were flying
high.
Since Becky was a dairy prin
cess, she thought it only proper
that milk be served to guests and a
milk toast was offered.
Becky encourages using the
talents of fnends to cut wedding
costs and to make the wedding
more personable. The disc jockey,
the wedding cake decorator, and
the photographer were friends.
Even the best laid plans can go
awry. And, it did for the couple on
their wedding night, but even that
ended up saving them money. The
couple had secured a suite with a
jaccu//i at a well-known hotel
chain They had a confirmation
number, but when they arrived, the
illlN
hotel said that an unexpected
busload had arrived and they had
given the couple’s room to some
one else.
It was late, and Becky was near
tears at this point. The chain sent
them to a hotel next door, who
when they heard of the new
lywed’s plight, gave the couple a
more elaborate room than the pre
viously booked one, all at no cost
to the couple. The pair then
traveled to Florida where they
stayed in a a Bed and Breakfast,
chosen from the many magazine
clippings that Becky has saved for
many years.
Even on the honeymoon, the
couple found ways to conserve
dollars. They ate a late breakfast,
had no lunch, and ate an early
dinner
When ihc wedding day and the
honeymoon were over, the couple
moved into a Lancaster home that
they had purchased with money
saved from budget-trimming wed
ding expenses.
“You save here and you spend
there,” Becky said about wedding
costs. “No matter how inexpensive
you try to do things, it ends up cost
ing a lot when you have 250
guests.
“It is important for couples to
decide what is the most important
and more deserving of money and
where expenses can be cut. It’s a
decision that can affect your lifes
tyle for years to come.”
