Apply For Liquid Fuels Tax Refunds
HARRISBURG (Dauphin
Co.) State officials are urging
farmers to apply for refunds on
taxes paid on liquid fuels that were
purchased for use in agricultural
production.
Specifically, the upcoming
refund is for taxes paid on fuel pur
chased anytime from July 1,1993
to June 30 1994.
While farmers pay the 12-cents
per gallon when purchasing the
fuel, even though they are exempt
for paying the tax, they have to
apply and request that the money
be returned.
And though records are neces
sary, and should be available
through the fuel dealer, in order to
make the claim, the process is not
difficult.
But according to a news release
from ihe state Treasury Depart*
menu not many are asking for their
money back. According to Pen
nsylvania Treasurer Catherine
Baker Knoll, about 40,000 far
mers did not even apply for
refunds. Please take the time to Till
out the... claim form. It takes only
a couple minutes, but it could
mean money in your pocket”
That 40.000 farmers who. did
not submit is out of the 51,000 est
imate farmers in Pennsylvania, all
of whom may have used liquid
fuels for some reason in agricultur
al production.
From a straight statistical
analysis, that means only about 20
percent of those potentially due
refunds are actually making a
request according to the state data.
, Last year those who applied
an average refund of
$lB3.
