York County Selects
Dairy Princess

BAIR (York Co.) Kelly Jo
Myers has been selected the 1994
York County Dairy Princess.
Her crowing was the highlight
of the annual York County dairy
princess pageant, held May 21 at
the county 4-H Center.
Kelly Jo, 17, is the daughter of
Carolyn and Morrell Myers, Tho
masville R 2. A junior at Spring
Grove High School, she serves as
class secretary and is active on the
track team. Her future education
plans are to enroll in Penn State
for undergraduate studies with a
career goal as a veterinarian.
Active in 4-H, Kelly is a mem
ber of the county’s dairy, lamb,
beef, and swine clubs and exhibits
her own two head of Brown Swiss
dairy cattle. She works on the
family’s Moovin’ Meadows live
stock and hay farm and is employ
ed part time at Lincoln Speedway.
For her promotional skit, Kelly
played the role of a school teacher,
teaching a class about milk and
dairy products. In response to a
“fishbowl” question asking how
she would handle a consumer ask
ing her a dairy-related question to
which she did not know the an
swer, Kelly replied that she would
admit she did not know the answer
and make an effort to find and for
ward it to the consu

Angela is a sophomore at Dal
lastown Area High School. She is
active in sports and band front and
participates annually in the com
munity Walkathon for Multiple
Sclerosis. Angela is employed
part time at Bupplynn Farms.
In her promotional skit, Angela
read an original dairy story she
wrote to her cow puppet side-kick
and to the children from the audi
ence. Her fishbowl question relat
ed to how she would continue
county promotions if, as a county
dairy princess, she was chosen the
state winner. Angela answered
that she would make extra efforts
to work with the county coordina
tor to continue fulfilling county
appearances along with those as a
state princess.
Tanya Thomas was selected the
county’s Dairy Maid. The
14-year-old daughter of Gail and
Gary Thoman, Dallastown, Tanya
is in the eighth grade at Dallas
town Middle School and active in
school chorus and band. She is a
member of the 4-H dairy club and
dairy bowl and of the York Coun
ty Junior Holstein Club.
For a promotional poster pre
sentation, Tanya spoke about the
use and identification of “Real”
dairy products. She was a York
County Dairy Maid for 1993, as
well.
Named Dairy Misses were
eight-year-olds Lisa Jones and Ni
cole Marks. Both presented ori
ginal dairy-related poems they had
written and memorized.
Lisa is the daughter of Paty and
Dennis Jones, Shrewsbury. She is
a second-grader at Southern Ele
mentary School and a beginning,
cloverbud member of the 4-H
dairy program. Lisa was a 1993
Dairy Miss.
Nicole Marks is the daughter of
Barbara and Melvin Marks, Air
ville. In the second grade at Gear
view Elementary, she is a clover
bud 4-H diary member.
Judges for the pageant were

woman and partner with her hus
band and family at Way-Brite
Dairy Farms, Gettysburg; Sharon
Hykes, owner of Butlons-N-Bows
Bridal Shop, York; and Scott De
puty, East Berlin, dairy specialist
for Punne Mills and chairman of
the Adams County dairy promo
tion program. Escorts for the prin
cess candidates were Brad Walk
er, New Freedom, and Dan Cole,
Glen Rock.
