Fairgoers may enjoy more than 65 activities and events, ranging from a magic show, performances by the Lancaster Co. Folk Music & Fiddlers’ Society, sheep, rabbit and peep hatching exhibits to blacksmithing, knife, and band box making. This 38th annual event at a scenic museum complex includes many hands-on activities for children and adults, such as cake walks, pie-eating contests, and making old-fashioned toys like button whizzers. The young at heart will also want to join in hay play, spelling bees, and many old fashioned games like sack races, sing along with Übi Adams, take a pony ride, use an auger and have an 1890 s school lesson. Landis Valley, rated “excep tional” by AAA, is the largest Pennsylvania German museum. Its many historical buildings, from farmsteads and a tavern to craft shops and a firehouse, will be open. The Fair includes tasty country food such as sausage sandwiches. On Saturday of the Fair the Shop will feature Louise Stoltzfus and Jan Mast signing their book, LANCASTER COUNTY COOK BOOK. Visitors will learn about tradi tional crafts and skills with demonstrations of 1700 s angling, the autoharp, basketry, bookbind ing, brick making, broom making, chair caning, coppersmithing, flax processing, guqsmithing, leather working, printing, punched embroidery, rug hooking, shoe making, stone carving, tin smithing, early veterinary prac tices, wagon making, weaving, wood carving and many other ear ly arts. The museum’s historical farm ing program is adding two new major features. On Saturday a Plowfest will be taking place most of the day. Visitors will see skilled horse teams plowing a field. On Sunday the Red Rose Carriage Club will perform precision movements (dressage), displaying a variety of horses and carriages. To raise funds for the museum’s farming program, volunteers will be running Cow Chip Bingo at the Log Farm.
