On Mother’s Day some of our
children phoned and some sent
cards. Philip and Lisa who live on
the farm with their'two boys
brought me a big iced cake which
I shared with them.
It seem that little boys get at
tached to their dogs. One grandson
phoned to tell me that his dog died
and he said, “Grandma, it was old
er than you are.” Some of our 11
grandchildren play with their dogs
so much that they pretend to be

fours even if they are three or six
years old.
We’ve had several dogs on our
farm over the years. Some were
short-haired and some were long
haired but our boys enjoyed play
ing with all of them. It is nice to
have a useful dog but they don’t
all fill that category. Some just lay
on the porch and wait to be petted
while others help to bring the
cows up to the bam.
For many years I’ve had a black
cat that had a litter of kittens each

spring. This year she and her two
kittens have disappeared. They
have been gone for a week and I
fear they won’t come back. Our
daughter in Texas is a real big ad
mirer of cats and dogs. She had a
special pet cat when she was
young and she has never outgrown
her love of animals. Her cats and
German shepherd dogs were
flown to her new home in Texas
last summer. I don’t think those
animals know how good they have
it down there with her and her hus
band.
