-Lancastw Fanning, Saturday, May 7, 1994 56 4-H’ers Gather In Harrisburg At Capitol Days HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) More than 100 4-H members across the state learned about the inner workings of state government when they took part in the State 4-H Capitol Days program in mid-April. Youth from participating 4-H clubs were selected to represent the county based on their 4-H experience and leadership skills. Breakfast with state legislators was the highlight of the event. 4-H members discussed issues and concerns and shared their ideas about the 4-H program. Capitol Days is an educational experience that provides 4-H members age 15 and older with a better understanding of their roles as citizens of Pennsylvania and the roles and functions of state goverment. Included|Were tours of various state facilities and meet ing with officials of state government. The 4-H teen’s experience in Harrisburg also included touring the gover nor’s home, corresponding with state senators and rep resentatives, a legislative breakfast with senators and rep resentatives, and recreational activities with other 4-H members from around the state. Each 4-H members chooses a particular state agency for an in-depth visit By visiting their legislators, 4-H’ers develop a better understanding of how the executive branch works.
