School Benefit Auction
MOUNT JOY (Lancaster Co.) The 17th annual Kraybill Men
nonite School Benefit Auction will be held Friday and Saturday, May
13 and 14, at the school. 598 Kraybill Church Road, Mount Joy.
On Friday, May 13, beginning at 5:00 p.m. enjoy a Southern Style
Pig Roast and an ice cream sundae bar. Tickets can be purchased prior
to the roast or that evening. Take-outs are available.
If crafts and plants are your favorites, stop by the craft and plant
sale from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Crafts will include country pillows, hand
made baskets, eucalyptus wreaths and much more. Also, preview the
beautifAl quilts and fine art slated to be auctioned. Choose your favo
rites for bidding on Saturday!
Baseball card collectors - be sure to visit the card stand at the craft
area to find that missing card!
Visit the outdoor plant area and choose from a variety of hardy
bedding plants and beatiuful perennials. Also meet KMS’s own
‘ Plant Doctor”, Tom Fredlund, a professional landscaper, on Friday
evening and get answers to your most thorny plant questions.
The gavel strikes at 6:45 p.m. when more than 100 Winross trucks
will be auctioned along with a few service oriented gift certificates
from local merchants.
Saturday, May 14, from 7:00-9:00 a.m. feast on a hearty country
breakfast of omelets and home fries or pancakes and sausage. After
breakfast, view the spectacular countryside, from a tethered hot air
balloon! Rides will lift off from 8:00-10:00 a.m., weather permitting.
For those of you who like to “wear your words”, custom printed
T-shirts will be hot off the press between 10:00 a.m. - 12 p.m.
The auction will begin at 9 a.m. and feature a large variety of new
merchandise donated by local businesses, handcrafted items, fine art
and collectibles, furniture, bark mulch (at 11 a.m.) and - at 1:30 p.m.
more than 20 beautiful quilts, wall hangings and braided rugs.
High quality, handmade quilts are a tradition at KMS! A few of this
year’s quilts include Country Rose and Spring Flower Garden (both
appliqued). Mariners Compass, Album and the KMS Eighth-grade
Log Cabin. Some matching wall hangings are also available.
In addition, one Williamsburg Blue and several Hunter Green
Mount Joy Hometown cotton throws will be auctioned. Cranberry
throws will be available for purchase at the craft stands.
An outstanding collectors edition is being offered this year! A one
of a kind remarquc, by P. Buckley Moss, will be featured at the auc
tion. The remarque is entitled, “The White Bam” and features exten
sive original painting on the print, making it a unique collectors item.
Other special features include P. Buckley Moss rare print, David
Brumbach limited edition print, a collection of prints and one limited
edition from Amish artist Susie Riehl, originals and prints of the Star
Bam and the Hans Herr House and an original oil - subject of the bid
der’s choice - by renowned local artist Linn Longenecker,, and Kray
bill Mennonite Church armetale banks.
Fresh strawberry pie, chicken barbecue, home baked goods and
funnel cakes are among the goodies available all day long.
Children’s activities include Kid’s Craft Table, the Pocket Lady,
movies, playground, and more.

all the work of laundering linens
daily, she irons the sheets, prepares
breakfasts, shops daily for sup
plies, cleans, decorates, and makes
crafts for guests to purchase.
That’s quite an undertaking when
added to the yard work and her
responsibilities to her own family.
In a few weeks, she plans to hire
part-time help.
