YORK (York Co.) The York
County Ag Land Preservation
Board, appointed in June 1989 by
the York County Board of Com
missioners, began the task to cre
ate and implement the York Coun
ty Conservation Easement Prog
ram. Since it*s review and
approval by the PA Ag Land Pre
servation Board in August 1990.
the program has received and eva
luated 135 applications covering
approximately 22,364 acres in 21
townships.
By the end of December 1993,
the York County Ag Land Pre
serve Board had preserved 21
farms, in 10 townships, totaling
6,056 acres. Another 173-acre
farm is awaiting State Board
approval. York County currently

of farm land preserved.
During the January 1994 appli
cation cycle, the Ag Preserve
Board Office received a total of 46
applications from 18 townships.
Of those, six high scoring applica
tions. covering 1,392 acres in eight
townships, were selected for pre
servation process and will be sub
mitted to the Slate Ag Land Preser
vation Board this fall for approval
for preservation.
Statewide, 32 of PA’s 67 coun
ties have an approved conservation
easement program. The Depart
ment of Agriculture’s Bureau of
Farmland Protection has approved
the easement purchases cm 431
farms covering 54,388 acres as of
March 1994.
