KUTZTOWN (Berks Co.) A
twilight growers’ meeting will be
held here at the John Brubaker
farm on May 4 at 6 p.m.
Topics covered will include
cover crops, relay cropping, com
posting, and no-tUI soybeans with
out herbicide.
Since 1991, Brubaker has parti
cipated in a unique project with
the Rodale Institute Research
Center (RIRC) known as the
Whole Farm Management Study.
Through this study Brubaker and
RIRC staff haye looked at the ef
fect that implementing low-input
practices has on the whole farm,
and at how well new practices
work on a real farm.
Brubaker implements low-input
farming practices on a portion of
his farm, allowing researchers to
monitor the effectiveness of those
practices on a farm scale.
Researchers also look at Bru
baker’s beef feedlot to get a pic
ture of how the livestock opera
tion affects crop production. The
growers’ meeting will focus on se
veral practices used on this study
