said.
In addition to receiving $75 for
each green stripe (up to eight), the
chapter will be able to compete for
“Best Chapter Award” statewide
and nationally.
The award will be granted to the
chapter that did the best job of
enrolling growers and working
with them to establish buffer strips
that protect* streams and provide
habitat for wildlife.
“We expect to sec some really
exciting innovations from this
program, which has students and
farmers working together,”
Hoogheem said. “This is an
opportunity to tell the non
farming community that farmers,
on their own and without regula
tion, are conducting their opera
tions in an environmentally
responsible way. And, maybe best
of all, it’s a way for future farmers
to learn ecologically sound
practices.”

of the Lancaster County 4-H
Horse Production Club will be
held April 12 at the home of
Samara Shuster-Edelson, 2001
Sonora Lane, Manheim, begin
ning at 7 p.m.
The Production Hone 4-H is
open to any youth between the
ages of 8 and 19 who has a horse
or pony under the age of three
yean. Production 4-H teaches
youth the skills needed in properly
raising, training, and showing a
young horse or pony.
Each youth has the opportunity
to show his or her animal in a
county production roundup with
possibilities of competing on the
district or state level of
competition.
