Farmers can sign up for Pennsyl
vania’s egg quality assurance
program until June 30, said John
Hoffman of the Pennsylvania
Poultry Federation.
Enrollment in the program is
voluntary, but once you enroll you
sign a contract to uphold standards.
If you become dissatisfied with the
program, you can resign, Hoffman
said.
The program assures buyers that
ihe products are safe from sal
monella. If a flock in the program
tests positive, the eggs must be
diverted to the breaker until the
flock tests negative for four conse
cutive weeks.
The cost of tests, sampling
material, and technical assistance
is the responsibility of USDA and
the Poultry Association and not the
farmer, Hoffman said.
