crab soup. Over the years, the family has modified the recipe
to adapt to modern methods of cooking.
Maryland Crab Soup
Cook together:
3 medium potatoes, diced
1 chopped onion
8 slices bacon cut in 1-inch pieces
'A pound claw crabmeat
Salt, to taste, cook until vegetables are tender. Add
1 can whole kernel corn
1 small can peas
1 can tomato sauce
% cup butter
Pepper
Red pepper
Worcestershire sauce, to taste
3 hard-cooked eggs, chopped
Mary Jane writes that beef soup bones can be used for fla
voring instead of bacon.
ANSWER Beatrice Weight, Duncannon, wanted a
recipe for oatmeal pie that tastes like those served at Yoder’s
in Mifflinburg. Thanks to a Port Treverton reader for sending
the following recipe.
Oatmeal Pie
% cup granulated sugar
1 cup molasses
4 eggs, beaten
% teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup oatmeal
1 cup coconut
Bake in unbaked pie shell. Makes 1 pie. Beat eggs, add
sugar syrup, and oatmeal. Bake at 425 for 10 minutes and
reduce temperature to 350 for 35 minutes.

Bingo at the Berks Heim is
April 7, the volunteer banquet is
April 20, and the Heim Fest Sep
tember 11, 1994.
The spring rally will be at the
York Fairgrounds on May 11, cost
for the meal $19.25 and Berks
County will have a Klein bus
available if enough people are
interested.
Another quilt is being made by
the Berks County Farm women as
a fund raiser.
Dorothy Strieker, state presi
dent, announced people and their
committees: song leader, Joyce
Shott, chaplein, Betty Boyer, his
torian, Fern Phillipy, by-law
books and seals, Janet Schlegel,
and jewelry, Kathryn Fry. A piano
player is needed.
Mary Hertzog from Group #3,
passed away February 20, 1994.

the home of Kathryn Hess in
Mount Joy. Catherine Aument
gave devotions. An enjoyable
slide presentation on a trip to
Alaska was given by Paul Smith.
