Farmers will have this opportunity through Pennsyl vania Department of Agriculture’s (PDA’s) Chemsweep Program and will have until March 31 to sign up. The program will give growers of agricultural products a means to dispose of canceled, suspended, or deteriorated pesticide products. Homeowners and commercial pesticide dealers will not be included in this program. Growers who have stored pro ducts that deteriorated or woe suspended or canceled are invited to participate in this free program. Since storage of these materials was the only safe and legal option prior to disposal, growers have stored these waste pesticides, often for many years. With uniden tified pesticides PDA will accept any product that can be identified as a. pesticide. If a grower has an unknown material, check the containers for label information and collect information on what crop or pest the material may have been used for. Cropping history may often narrow the scope of historical uses and help in identification. Provide all this information to the PDA personnel. They will sample all unknowns for identification and tag each container. Materials not identified as pesticides by PDA may not be accepted. Agricultural producers who want to take advantage of this opportunity will need to list all of the pesticides that they wish to dispose of on an inventory form which they should have received in January. Inventory forms are available at the extension office. Call Tom Maloney, (717) 265-2896, if you have questions or if you need forms. T A i ft , ■ ?! ¥ A
