Mid-View
Wayne & Georgia Tucker, along with their
son Stan, operate Mid-View Farm near
Jefferson Maryland. Stan’s wife, Sandy and
their children Justin and Rebecca also help
with the daily chores. Presently they are
farming in excess of 300 acres to provide high
quality alfalfa haylage, corn silage, and high
moisture corn for the dairy herd.
The herd consists of 135 Holsteins that
are presently producing a rolling D.H.I.A.
average of 21,076 pounds of milk. 801
pounds of fat (3.8%), and 670 pounds of
protein (3.2%). The Tuckers maintain a 12.8
month calving interval and the average age of
their first calf heifers is 24.8 months.

The milking herd is fed a TMR ration
using corn silage, alfalfa haylage, high
moisture corn, whole cottonseed, and
Purina’s Hi E milking concentrate. A top
dress of Hi-E B 31% and high moisture corn
is fed to the higher producing cows.
Dry Cows and the younger livestock are
also fed Purina products. Calf Startena,
Nurse Chow 100 Hi-E, Animax, and Prepare
Concentrate are all being fed on the farm.
The TMR forage ingredients Eire routinely
tested to maintain adequate nutrient and dry
matter intake. The herd is scored for body
condition periodically and the data is
reviewed in evaluating ration changes.
