Traveling Farmer Workshop
LANCASTER (Lancaster Co.) With the
deadline for pesticide applicator license renewals
fast approaching, many fanners are searching for
pesticide meetings to fulfill their credit require
ments.
The Lancaster County Conservation District has
prepared a traveling farmer workshop on pesticides
to be conducted this spring on March 22-24, at
three different farms in Lancaster County.
Up to four core credits may be earned by attend
ing any one of the three presentations. All pro
grams will begin at noon and end around 2:30 p.m.
The first workshop will be held at the Don Welk
farm just south of Strasburg on Lime Valley Road
on Tuesday, March 22. On Wednesday, March 23,
the second presentation will be held at the John
Zimmerman farm located south of Bowmansville
on Center Church Road. The final workshop will
be held on Thursday, March 24 at the Ken Zurin
farm on Spooky Nook Road south of Route 283

The focus of the traveling workshop will be on
pesticide container recycling and disposal, calibra
tion of sprayers and insecticide hoppers, and finish
with a discussion of streambank fencing and other
county programs. The district is working with Jeff
Stoltzfus. Elanco adult farmer instructor, and Bob
Anderson, Penn State extension, on coordinating
the workshop.
The traveling farmer workshop was designed to
be presented in an afternoon at three different farms
in different sections of the county. This is better
than one larger program because it will enable
more fanners to attend a meeting without an ex
tremely long drive.
