MARY: Compared to lan week: Feeder
steers over 700 lbs. closed weak with a
decline in flesh and fills. Steers under 700
lbs. steady to $2.00 higher. Feeder heifers
over 600 lbs. steady to $ 1.50 higher. Light
er weight heifers Sl.oo-52.00 higher.
Trade fairly active. Demand moderate to
good for feeder cattle, excellent for Stock
ers and calves. Spring seems to be around
the comer with little to no price discrimina
tion on Brahman Cross cattle. Quality plain
thro attractive. Flesh conditions slightly
thin to moderately fleshy, closing mostly
on the fleshy end, Weigh-ups average to
mostly gaunt early, average to full later.
Conditions the most important factor to
buyers in this market. Slaughter cows and
bulls steady. Demand good from packers,
as well as bred cow buyers. Receipts this
week 13,425; last week 9,508; last year
10,268. Supply consisted of 85 percent
yearlings over 600 lbs.; 12 percent calves
under 600 lbs.; 3 percent cows and bulls.
Prices follow with weighted average
weight and price in parenthesis.
