County Recognizes 4-H Beef Club and International 4-H Youth Exchange families were honored during two recent events in the county. 4-H’ers, Families Adams County 4-H Serf Club members Wayne Flickinger, Biglerville; Mandy Hilbert, Lit tlestown; and Missy Becker, Abbottstown were honored with the Glenn Boyer Memorial Award at the Beef Buyers Appreciation Banquet in January at the Gettys burg Fire Hall. Becker and Hilbert are graduat ing because of age from the Adams County 4-H Beef Club. Flickinger was the Adams County Junior Beef National Award winner. All three received a cash award. Adams County 4-H Beef Club members were also recognized for serving their first year. They are ||j| HAPPENINGS North Mountain 4-H Community Club A new 4-H community club has formed in the North Annville Ono, Waterworks, Bellgrove area. Meetings are held the last Monday night of each month at the Water works Fireball off of Thompson Avenue. At the Monday, Jan. 24 meet ing, 48 members were present. Games and mixers were enjoyed by everyone 20 minutes before the meeting began. The meeting was called to order by Vice President, Natalie Funck. Secretary’s report was read and roll call was taken. At the organizational meeting, new members selected projects and learned the 4-H pledge. The new officers were then introduced and the meeteing began as Vice President Natalie Funck called the meeting to order. The new offiers for 1994 are Jesse Wenger, president; Natalie Funk, vice president; Emily Wen ger, secretary/treasurer; Holly Meyer, news reporter; Natalie Wenger and Natalie Funck, game/ song leaders. The projects that will begin dur ing winter are baseball card col lecting starting Feb. 24 and March 3,10,17 & 24, from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the Waterworks Fire Hall. Cake decorating March 1,8, IS, 22 and 29 at the Fire Hall, 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Rocketry begins Feb. 24 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. also ceramics and pets will begin in March. Anyone interested in being a leader and lending their skills and knowledge or wandng to be a member please call Dale and Fran Bushong at (717) 865-6270. 4-H Holds Annual Tree Sale The Northampton County 4-H Program Development Committee is holding its annual tree sale. They will be accepting orders for trees until March 15. This fund-raiser supports 4-H prog rams throughout Northampton County, including camp scholar ships, teen leadership weekends, leader training workshops, and achievement awards. The two and three year see dlings may be used for yard plant ings, erosion control, and to reduce carbon dioxide levels. Available evergreens include Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, White Pine, Scotch Pine, Douglas Fir, Austrian Pine, and Arborvitae. All trees are sold in bundles of 25 of the same species fo $B. At the annual cooperative exten sion meeting in January at the Heidlersbuig Fire Co., the Interna tional 4-H Youth Exchange (IFYE) host families were recog nized. They were Ron, Joyce, Kim and Chad Funt, Arendtsville and Bonnie and John Hess, Gettysburg. Each family hosted an IFYE from Australia for three weeks this past summer. from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the fol lowing locations: Capital Plaza, Bangor; Westgate Mall, Beth lehem; Rinker’s Store, Moores town; Eddie’s Market, Pennsville (Rt. 248); Northampton Farm Bureau, Tatamy; Agway, Hellerton. Heather Ranch Lancaster County 4-H’er Attends National Congress Heather Ranch, Paradise, was one of 38 delegates from Pennsyl vania to attend the five-day National 4-H Youth Congress held at the Chicago Hilton and Towers in December representing the Pennsylvania 4-H and Youth Development program. Delegates, including Ranch, were selected from the more than 119,000 4-H members in Pennsyl vania based upon their record of community involvement, excel lence in their selected program area, and leadership shills. Cumberland 4-H Goat Club The Cumberland County 4-H Goat Club met February 2 at the home of Tim Zeigler. Election of officers was held for 1994. They are; president, Zach Travis; vice president Sonya Rinker; secretary, Kristy Foreman; treasurer, Addi son Rook; news reporter, Joel Vanasdlen; county council rep resentatives, Kristy Foreman and Zach Travis. Members signed up for demon strations to be given at upcoming meetings. Members welcomed three new members to the club. The next meeting will be held on March 2 at the home of Greg and Beth Garvin.
