    Even though I’m indoors most
of the time in winter, I still find
plenty of things to do. My flower
plants, that are all over the house,
always seem to need water. And,
if they are covered with blossoms,
eventually they will drop those
flowers and I will have to pick
them up.
It is a season to invite others to
share meals with us. After all a big

invite a sister for dinner. Then, of
course, I must bake a large apple
cake for dessert.
Last week I sorted some boxes
of books and we put them in the
new bookcase. One of the books
looked very interesting and so I

days. The embroidered pillow
cases that I stamped are almost
finished. But. I ran out of a special
shade of green thread and will
have to try and buy some more.
Occasionally, I’ll get our grand
children for a few hours. When
one is three years old and the other
two months old. They have diffe
rent needs. It is very nice when my
husband is home and can help me
keep them happy.
One son brought us a large plas
tic playhouse with a slide at
Christmas time and we have it in
the basement along with a scooter
and my old express wagon for the
grandchildren. I could not count
the number of games and puzzles
that fill an old empty television
cabinet Just keeping the pieces
where they belong is a job. The
story books that our six children
used are not in very good condi
tion but they still serve their

Co.) Tomatoes, pumpkins,
herbs, honey bees tailgate mark
ets, and greenhouses will be just a
few of the topics covered at the
annual New Holland Vegetable
Day sponsored by the Eastern
Lancaster County School District
Adult Fanner Program. The meet
ing will be held on February 21,
however the location this year has
been changed to St. Stephen

from. Concurrent sessions will
include topics on tomato produc
tion, greenhouse production,
biodegradable mulches, weed and
disease management, herb pro
duction. vegetable marketing,
pumpkin production, and honey
bee management Speakers will
include Penn State Extension Spe
cialists, Maureen Rogers of Her
bal Connection, Scott Kulp from
Landis Supermarkets, and Dan
Marini from Zeneca Ag Products.
The program will feature two
general sessions. Dr. Alan Mac-
Nab from Penn State will discuss
his 1993 research on vegetable
diseases. Dr. Otho Wells from the
University of New Hampshire will
discuss High Tunnel Production
of Vegetables. High tunnels can
produce vegetables earlier and
with less disease pressure than
conventional production
techniques.
Credits toward pesticide re
certification will be awarded to
those with Private Applicator
Licenses. Up to one core and four
category credits will be offered.
Be sure to bring your current pri
vate applicator license with you. A
special session for those needing
category 21 credits for Soil Fumi
gation will be held in the
afternoon.
Lunch will be available for a
nominal cost. The meeting will be
held in the education wing of the
church. Car parking is available at
the church. Farmers with teams
can park downtown at the public
hitching rails. For more informa
