ClMancaster Farming, Saturday, January 22, 1994 YORK (York Co.) As 1993 came to a close, the Farm & Na tural Lands Trust, York County’s only private nonprofit land preser vation organization, was busy wrapping up land saving actions on more than 232 acres of land. Conservation easements on the first two properties, consisting of a total of 64 acres, were formally accepted by F&NLT’s board of directors at their November meet ing. These lands will now be for ever protected for their agricultur al and natural open space values. Two of the most unique fea tures a land trust can offer a landowner who wishes to protect their land are flexibility and anonymity. For many different reasons, landowners wishing to protect their land sometimes pre fer to do so privately. The first conservation easement approved was granted to the Trust under a limited disclosure agreement. This conservation easement on 50 acres of farm and open space lands along Powder Mill Road is a first for York Township. The inte *so LIGHT & SOFT & CUSWONMG & COMFORTABLE I B . Through their donation of a conservation easement on this property, the landowners have provided a rare opportunity for land preservation and for the future of York County. The second conservation ease ment approved in November is an other first for both public and pri vate land preservation efforts in York County. This easement on 14.308 acres of agricultural land has been granted to F&NLT by Barbara Wamenof East Manches ter Township, with a future con servation easement on the adjoin ing 188 acres of agricultural and natural lands. The Warren Farm, at limes re ferred to locally as Starview Farms, lies between the village of Starview and the Boro of Mt. Wolf. The original 202-acre prop erty, from which the 14.308-acre parcel was separately deeded, has been in the Warren family since 1948, and has supported a variety of agricultural uses. Today the land is in a crop rotation of com, wheat, soybeans, hay, and oats. With better than 96 percent of all soils on this parcel in soil capabili ty Classes I through IV, this tract is well suited to its current agricul tural use.
