DES MOINES, lowa The
nation’s pork producers are
investing more than $3B million
this year in programs to strengthen
the position of pork in the mark
etplace and to expand and develop
markets for pork products in this
country and foreign markets.
Money for pork promotion,
research, and consumer informa
tion programs comes from a
national legislative checkoff prog
ram that started in 1986. Produc
ers selling breeding stock, feeder
pigs or market hogs, as well as
importers of hogs and pork pro
ducts, contribute .35 of one per
cent of the market value (35 cents
per $lOO value) to the checkoff
program.
