Most youngsters think Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
has been around forever . . . just like Santa Claus.
Actually, Rudolph was “born” in 1939 in a Chicago
department store! The brainchild of Robert May, an ad copy
writer for Montgomery Ward, Rudolph started out as an illus
trated poem; 2.4 million copies were handed out nationwide
that year. In 1947, Johnny Marks set the poem to music, but
no one wanted to record it. Then in 1949 Gene Autry record
ed the song, which zoomed to the top of the charts. Three
h undred different recordings and eighty mil
\mSlm tion records >ater < Autry’s “Rudolph” is second
I only to Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” as
the best ' se>> ‘ n S record of all time.

enough to cause cancer if
inhaled or ingested. In a fire

unnecessary risk. Photo
electric smoke alarms use no
radioactive materials, are
more effective, and give off

ATTENTION TOBACCO FARMERS
For the past several months we have worked very
hard to get prices up from last year’s $1.09 aver
age. We believe the contracts that were written
have already guaranteed our customers a much
higher price for this year.
As a major buyer of 609 tobacco in Lancaster Co.,
GOLDEN LEAF TOBACCO is looking forward to
assisting you in keeping a good market for your
609 tobacco.
We will be receiving tobacco Monday to
Friday from 8 am to 4 pm. If we can be of
any help, please give us a call.
We are located at the same location as last year, 3
miles east of Rt. 222 on Rt. 322 between
Hinkletown and Blue Ball. Watch for our sign on
the north side of Rt. 322 at the
Quality Fencing Warehouse.
