Adams 4-H Capon Rounduup
The Cashtown Lions Club host
ed the annual 4-H Capon Roundup
with a record-setting sale. The
grand champion was exhibited by
Tim Shelter, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Shelter, Gettysburg. The
11-pound 14-ounce capon was
purchased by Bernard V. Miller,
Sr. The reserve champion capon
was exhibited by first-year project
member Heather Stevens of Ab
bottstown. Heather’s 11-pound
7-ounce capon was purchased by
Douglas M. Miller, contractor -
pole buildings, New Oxford.
Heather is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Rick Stevens.
Edward Miller, chairman for
this year’s show and sale, reported
eight Adams County 4-H’ers par
ticipated in the 4-H Capon Round
up sponsored by the Cashtown
Lions Club, the Adams County
Poultry Association, and Adams
County Cooperative Extension.
Sixteen capons weighing a total of
173 pounds 6 ounces sold for
$1,266.81. The average price per
pound was $7.33. Miller said the
profit received by these junior

Special Memorial awards were

Four 4-H members were
awarded the “I Dare You” Leader
ship Award. The award honored
4-H teens for excellence in char
acter, balanced personal develop
ment, and leadership potential.
Those who received the award

Richard Rudolph. Hanover;
Heather Hawkins. New Oxford;
and Marc Scott, Gettysburg. Each
recipient received a copy of Wil
liam H. Danforth’s book, “I Dare
You.” The book presentation was
made by the American Youth
Foundation and York Farm
Credit.
Eleven-year 4-H members rec
