The Noble Experiment
December 5 marks the 60th anniversary of the end of
Prohibition. Although the “Noble Experiment” had high
ideals, it spawned an entirely new breed of criminal the
bootlegger. Speakeasies replaced saloons and vast criminal
networks developed to support the illegal activities. With for
tunes at stake, gang warfare and killings became the rule. Al
Capone, the alleged boss behind Chicago's St. Valentine’s
Day Massacre in 1929, made about $6O million annually dur
ing his heyday. Public opinion turned in favor of repeal as the
economic strains of the Depression wore on. Even staunch
defenders of Prohibition such as John D.
Rockefeller Jr. and S S. Kresge withdrew their
support when they considered the tax revenues
that were being lost.
Prohibition has made nothing hut
trouble. Al Capone

A good low-flow shower
head can reduce water use
by 50%, save you energy
dollars, and deliver an invigo
rating shower as well. Now
that’s a bargain at any price,
so don’t try to cut corners by
using a “flow restrictor” or
cheaper plastic showerhead
they won’t deliver the
shower you want. According
the the Natural Resources
Defense Council a good low
flow showerhead will pay for
itself in less than six months
to one year depending on
how you heat your water _
