Cumberland Farm Women Hold 54th Convention MECHANICSBURG (Cum berland Co.) “Special Olymp ics” was the theme for this year’s convention of Cumberland Coun ty Farm Women. An atmosphere of “going for the gold” and win ning prevailed among the women. The S4th annual convention was held at the Gigante Restaur ant, Mechanicsburg, on Saturday, November 13. Jean Ott, Group 1; Dorothy Goodling, Group 2; Dorothy Shaffer, Group 4; Edna Gutshall, Group 7; Hazel 'Dressier, Group 14; and Gladys Hoover, Group 19; were the reci pients of the 80-year awards. New officers were elected dur ing the business meeting. Results of the election were: President, Put Lehman, Group 7; First Vice Pres ident, Fay Stare, Group 17; Sec ond Vice President, Donna Dun can, Group S; Recording Secret ary, Betty Wert, Group 13; Corresponding Secretary, Annie Deitch, Group 16; and Treasurer, Sarah Nealy, Group 22. The organization donated SS,B4S to local charities and $9OO for the heifer project, which donates a food-processing animal to a needy family who in turn donates the first offspring to a needy family. The highlight of the day was the presenting of a check for $675 to Stephanie Lehmier, coordinator, of Cumberland County Special Olympics, the county’s theme for the year. Christopher Westbrook, a spe cial child, blind from birth, grand son to Fran Westbrook, Cumber land Society president, provided the special music with several wonderful selections on the piano. The S4th Cumberland County Convention adjourned with the singing of the theme song “Bright en the Comer Where You Are.” The organization’s purpose to contribute to the power and influ ence of the farm home, to contri bute to the community activity of farm women, to develop leader ship and to promote better living and working conditions in the farm homes.
