417,462 members at home could
witness the proceedings.
The FFA National Agricultural
Career Show featured 230 exhib
its. including industry, govern
ment, and education. The largest
career show ever highlighted the
latest trends and technology in
agriculture and the many educa
tional opportunities available to
members.
The National FFA Alumni held
another successful auction, raising
more than $44,000 to support FFA
programs.
FFA Achievers Named
Former FFA members who
have made outstanding contribu
tions to the industry of agriculture
and the United States were recog
nized recently at the 66th National
FFA Convention. Five people
were inducted into the FFA Na
tional Hall of Achievement in the
areas of agricultural education,
agricultural production, leader
ship, agribusiness and general

The FFA Achievers’ recogni
tion program is sponsored by the

permanent display is housed in the
National FFA Center in Alexan
dria, Va.. where the honoiees will
be pictured. A new group of
honorees is inducted every three
years.

was honored in die urea of agricul
tural education. For more than 36
years, Carnes served as associate
editor and later editor of the FFA
magazine, FFA New Horizons, hi
1982, he also became the adminis
trative director of the organization
until ids retirement in 199}.
Joe Hampton Jr., Windsor, HI.,
was honored in the area of agricul
tural production. He serves as the
chairman of the board for the U.S.
Meat Export Federation. Hamp
ton, who operates a 2,000-plus
acre grain and livestock farm, has
provided producer input for the
state of Illinois regarding agricul
tural export protocol with Russia.
U.S. Senator Larry Craig, Ida
ho, said his FFA experience paved
the way to his current position in
Congress and to his recognition as
the agricultural leadership in
ductee. Craig, originally from

palius, Texas, was honored for his
contributions to agriculture, rural
development, and small business
es in the general agriculture cate
gory. Before serving in the Texas
State Senate for eight years, he
was an agriculture teacher at Far
ley’s Boys Ranch, his home FFA
chapter. He was elected to the
U.S. House of Representatives in
1988.

set a record level of support for
FFA and agricultural education
programs. At (he 66th National
FFA Convention, Dale A. Miller
announced that a total of
$5,075,000 was raised in 1993 to
support projects and programs for
FFA and agricultural education, a
seven percent increase from 1992.
A crowd of more than 29,000 FFA
members and guests cheered the
announcement
Miller serves as the 1993 FFA
Foundation Sponsors’ Board
chairman, and is president and
chief executive officer of Sandoz
Agro, Inc. Miller sees the contri
butions of the more than 1,000
Foundation sponsors as an invest
ment in the future. “American agriculture
counts on the FFA to provide the leaders of to
morrow. For that reason alone, those of us
who work in this industry can make no wiser
expenditure than to support this fine organiza
tion,” he said.
Miller introduced the 1994 FFA Founda
tion Sponsors’ Board chairman, Ron Davis,
who is president and chief executive officer of
Biggs/Gihnore Communications. Davis an-
nounced the 1994 Foundation theme, “FFA
Leaders for the 21st Century.”
The 1993-1994 national FFA officer team
was elected Nov. 13 at the 66th National FFA
Convention. Leading the six-member team is
national FFA president Curtis Childers, 20,
of Nemo, Texas. Childers, the son of Linda
Vineyard and the late Gary Childers, is a
member of the Glen Rose FFA Chapter. His
local advisor is Gary Rbsenbusch.
Childer’s supervised agricultural experi
ence program consists of a market and show
hog operation. He will take a year-long leave
of absence from Texas A&M University,
where he is majoring in agricultural develop
ment, to serve his term as president.
The national secretary is Andrew McCrea,
21, of Maysville, Mo. His parents are M.L.
and Suzanne McCrea, and he is a member of
the King City FFA Chapter. McCrea’s local
advisor is Steve Shifflett
His SAE program consists of a diversified
crop and livestock operation that he farms
with his father and grandfather. A junior at
the University of Missouri-Columbia, major
ing in general agriculture, McCrea will take a
year-long leave of absence to fulfill the du
ties of secretary.
Raquel Lacey, 20, of Nokomis, 111., is the
central region vice president. She is the
daughter of Robert and Ruth Ann Lacey. A
member of the Nokomis FFA Chapter, La
cey’s advisor is Randy Meyer.
Her diversified livestock SAE consists of
sheep and horses. Lacey will take a year’s
leave of absence from the University of Illi
nois, where she is majoring in animal sci
ence, to serve her term.
The eastern region vice president is Liam
Brody, 19, of Greenville, N.Y. Brody, the
son of Bill and Pat Brody, is a member of the
Greenville FFA Chapter. His local advisor is
William Ransom.
Brody’s SAE consists of placement on
dairy, sheep, and horse farms as well as a
small sheep enterprise. He will take a year’s
leave of absence from the State University of
New York where he is majoring in agricul
tural business to serve his term in office.
