tance Agency (PHEAA) will im
plement the Agriculture Educa
tion Loan Forgiveness Program,
according to state Rep. Jeffrey
Coy.
The program, created in 1992
by the General Assembly, helps
graduates in agriculture-related
fields and veterinary medicine re
pay their student loans. They must
return to work on a family farm or
practice veterinary medicine that
includes agriculture animals.

‘This program offers up to
$2,000 per year to pay PHEAA
guaranteed student loans for every
year the individual is employed on
the family farm or practices as a
vet,” Coy said.
Coy said the program set a
maximum of $lO,OOO in loan for
giveness payments.
Additional criteria that must be
met in order for an individual to be
eligible for the program includes
graduation from a Pennsylvania
college or university; certification
by the U.S. Department of Agri
culture to sign health certificates

required for interstate commerce
of ag animals and animal pro
ducts; the authorization to certify
regulatory testing; employment on
a family farm that is being used
for the production of commercial
agricultural products, and these
farms must devote 75 percent or
more of their assets to the business
of agriculture.

how cooperatives can meet the
needs of members in a changing

nology. increasing worldwide
involvement, and the movement
of production agriculture away
from family farms and a way of
life to family business. Roth said
the concept of cooperative opera
tions are being challenged and that
co-ops need to constantly look at
how they can address member
needs in order to serve. He ended
with a reminder that cooperatives
are always made up of the
membership.
