The objective, according to Heller ick, was to increase the knowledge and professionalism of landscape managers in south central Pennsylvania. “This program was imple mented in response to local land scape managers’ desire for more in-depth, focused programs,’’ said Hellerick. “The problem with these programs, however, is the ’shotgun’ approach of covering a little bit of everything and never covering any one topic thoroughly. Upon further discussions, I invited a group of landscape managers, nurserymen, and extension rep resentatives to meet and sharetheir ideas about creating an in-depth, four-year program specifically for landscape managers.” To date, there have been three programs: pruning, tree identifica tion, and shrub identification, and Hellerick said the results have been “very positive.
