    Maryland 4-H Livestock Judges
COLLEGE PARK, Md.
After a successful fall season at
three regional youth contests,
Maryland’s 4-H livestock judging
team is looking forward to nation
al competition on November 16
during the North American Inter
national Livestock Exposition at
Louisville, Ky.
Here’s how the team has
warmed up for the big event:

Maryland placed first in the
overall standings among five state
teams competing in the 4-H divi
sion on Sept. 18 at “The Big E -
New England’s Great State Fair"
in West Springfield, Mass.
The Maryland team also fin
ished fust in reasons and first in
swine judging. It was second
behind Pennsylvania in sheep
judging and second—behind Vir
ginia in beef cattle judging.
Randy Mullinix, 16, of Lisbon
(Howard County) placed first
among 21 individual contestants
in both swine judging and overall
standings. He also was first in

in the reasons category with team
mate Monica Feeser, 17, of
Taneytown (Carroll County) and
Ashley Craun of the Virginia
team.
Monica finished fourth, in the
overall standings. She and Randy
were second and first, respective
ly, in senior 4-H livestock judging
on Sept. 4 during the Maryland
State Fair in Timonium. •"
Jason Murray, 16, of Glenelg
(Howard County) was fifth in 4-H
swine judging at “The Big E.”

Livestock Exposition
Maryland placed second overall among 10
state 4-H and FFA teams participating in the
junior livestock judging contest on Oct 2 dur
ing the Keystone International Livestock
Exposition at Harrisburg, Pa. The team also
was second in both reasons and swine judg
ing, third in sheep and fifth in beef cattle
judging.
Randy Mullinix jumped back into first
place among 39 individuals in the overall
standings. He also placed first in swine judg
ing, seventh in beef cattle judging, and sixth
in reasons. Monica Feeser was second in
reasons.
Bob Dinsmore placed third in sheep judg
ing at Harrisburg, and Jason Murray was third
in swine judging.
Coaching the Maryland 4-H livestock
judging team again this year is William A.
Curry of Shepherds Glen (Howard County),
an Extension livestock specialist for the Uni
versity of Maryland at College Park.
Curry has been the Maryland coach for
more than 20 years. His assistant this year is
Karen E. Holloway of Darlington (Harford
County), a former 4-H member of a Curry
coached team. Holloway is an agricultural
science agent for the cooperative extension
service in Howard County.
