(Continued from Page B 4) In the swine sale, John Stauffer collected a hefty $7.50 a pound for his champion hog purchased by Manheim Auto Auction. Following close on his heels was Amy Becker whose reserve champion hog was sold to Bombergers Store for $7 a pound. The swine sale had 140 hogs cross the auction block for an average price of $1.46 per pound. Lamb prices were down a bit this year with only 20 lambs sold by 4-H’ers and FFA’ers at an average of $2.93 per pound. The 125-pound grand champion, shown by Brandon Ziegler, went to Boss’s Steak House for $4 a pound. Three buyers. Lull’s Construction, Jim’s Welding, and Smucker’s Meat, pooled their resources to purchase the reserve champion lamb from Travis Donough for $3.35 a pound. Speedwell Construction paid $4.10 a pound for Corby Ziegler’s champion lightweight The reserve champion steer, owned by Casey High of Lititz, went for $1.50 a pound to J.H. Brubaker and Sons of Manheim. Average price for the 16 steers was $1.35 per pound. Earl Geib, president of the Manheim Farm Show board of directors, attributed the increase of buyers to the extras that kids do. These extras include letter writing and con tacting potential buyers. Deb Seibert, Manheim Central vocational ag teacher, said that the sale animals have been raised by FFA and 4-H members as learning experience projects. The support of the 70 registered buyers makes it possible for members to continue their projects. As a token of their appreciation, FFA members offered doughnuts and beverages to the buyers. Buyers who pur chased an animal from an Manheim FFA member received a special emblem cap as a token of appreciation.
