Manhelm Buyers Double At Youth Livestock Sale

Bidding was brisk and competitive
on the 28S animals sold over the
Manheim Farm Show auction
block on Friday night, October 8.
The number of registered buyers at
the Youth Livestock Sale doubled
this year and bidders were gener
ous in donating money to needy
causes.
As i finale of last year’s sale,
Kara Allen again donated her
lamb to Clare House, a shelter for
for Ryan Donough’s 1,375-pound champion steer. Marci
Harnlsh, right. Campbell then donated the steer for another
bid to raise additional funds for Clare House. Keystone
Farm Credit purchased it for $1.75 a pound.

Rascal, the sheep she raised for the
event, because a rabid skunk had
been killed on the Allen’s farm just
days earlier. The farm is quaran
tined for six months to make cer
tain that the farm animals were not
exposed to rabies. Kcrra offered a
home-crafted stuffed sheep with
the promise of Rascal after the
quarantine lifts.
Bidding rose fast and furious to
$8.25 a pound when Larry Groff of
Lancaster Ford Tractor contended

for the winning bid against a group
identified as Friends of Kerra,
which included Lancaster Ford
Tractor, Manheim Auto Auction,
TW’s Leather Sales, Guy Lebo,
and others. The group donated
$l,OlO for the winning bid that
.brought the total of funds raised
through Kerra’s efforts to mote
than $lO,OOO.
The happy 12-ycar-old said that
she was delighted to help Clare
House in this way, but next year,
she needs to put her sale earnings
toward upcoming college
expenses.
After Kerra’s sale of the stuffed
lamb, Clare House received addi
tional funds when Bill Campbell of
Hoss’ Steak and Seafood House
paid $3.75 a pound for Ryan
Donough’s 1,375 pound champion
steer. In a display of generosity.
Campbell donated the steer to be
resold with the monies going to
Clare House. Keystone Farm Cre
dit took the second bid for $1.75 a
pound.
Prices for goats, this year,
almost doubled when Manheim
Auto Auction paid $3.85 a pound
for Jacy Fisher’s 100-pound
champion goat Reserve champion
Jodi Gebhard did get double of last
year’s reserve sale bid when Wal
ter Dunlap and Sons paid $2.40 a
pound for her 97-pound goat
