BlMancastor Farming, Saturday, September 18, 1993 IJjJ HAPPENINGS 4-H Pig Club Show And Sale The 51st annual Franklin Coun ty 4-H Pig Club Show and Sale was held recently, with 99 4-H animals going across the auction block. The 250 pound grand champion was shown by Spencer Walk, Chambersburg and was purchased by W.R. Sellers, Greencastle for $4.00 a pound. The reserve champion, also weighing in at 250 pounds was shown by Lori Cauf man, Chambersburg and was pur chased by the Meyers Implement Co., Greencastle, for $1.75 a pound. The champion pen-of-two was shown by Jenny Daugherty, Mer cersburg and was purchased by Chambersburg Farm Service for $1.20 a pound. The reserve champion pen-of two also shown by Lori Caufman, Lycoming Co. 4-H The 4-H Horse and Pony members of Lycoming Coun ty have been busy in the month of August Recently 37 4-H members from seven local clubs com peted in the local 4-H Horse roundup held in early August at the Williamsport Riding Club. Classes for all ages and ability were held including ther apeutic classes for handicapped members. Those that placed at the level of competition were able to move on to the district show that was held at Clinton County Fairgrounds. Twenth-three local members were eligible to compete at the district show in 61 classes. Reserve champion honors in the senior division went to Seth Walk, Chambewrsburg while James Kent, St. Thomas, was junior reserve champion in the fitting and showing competition. Thiry-three 4-H members parti cipated in the show, with 99 4-H project animals averaging 239 pounds selling for $73.68 per hun dredweight. The sale totaled 23,640 pounds of pork-on-the hoof selling for $17,416.87. The show was judged by Rus sell Kegg a pork producer from Bedford County. Adams County 4-H Adams County youth partici pated in the Beef Breeding Show at the South Mountain Fair. Eugene Hunt, East Berlin,, showed the champion 4-H Polled Hereford heifer.
