HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) As a safeguard to
the consuming public’s views on safe food products and
the recent United States Food and Drug Administration’s
decision to “check” Junior Livestock Show Animals at
slaughter and before for illegal residues, the Keystone
International Livestock Exposition has implemented a
Wholcsomfe Meat Animal Assurance Program for the
1993 year.
We know that it is important that our exhibitors abide
in the safe use of the products which may cause a residue
problem. This is the only way we can ensure that every
market animal exhibited for slaughter be fed and main-

lained in a proper manner in order to provide a safe and
wholesome product to the consuming public. We urge
our exhibitors to abstain from the use of any drugs what
soever, but if it is necessary to use drugs, we urge abiding
within the legal withdrawal limits before slaughter.
Each exhibitor is required to complete a certification
form stating that no drugs were used or listing the dates
which the medication was administered. Not only is the
youth required to sign, but also the parent The form must
be turned in at weigh-in.
The Keystone International Livestock Exposition will
be held September 30-October 4, at the Farm Show Com
plex in Harrisburg, PA.
