KILE Qualifies For
HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) In 1993, over 200
six-horse hitchers were entered in the 45 qualifying
shows across the United States and Canada. The Key
stone International Livestock Exhibition is again a qual
ifying show for the 1993 year. Prize money wifi be
awarded at the KILE Show,.

classic series is part of KILE.
HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) —Ina ceremony at the
37th annual Keystone International Livestock'Exposition
(KILE), Dr. Everett Denlingcr, a lifetime resident of Lan
caster County, who devoted a lifetime of service to Ani
mal Agriculture in Pennsylvania, will be nftned 1993
Livestock Man of the Year and his picture will be hung in
the Livestock Hall of Fame. The public is invited to hon
or Dr. Denlinger at a ceremony at 4:00 in the Small Arena
of the Farm Show Complex.
Dr. Denlinger was bom on a farm in Kinzer in 1915.
He married Martha A. Wenger in 1937 and they have one
daughter, Linda Lee. He received his pre-veterinary train
ing at Franklin and Marshall and received a degree in vet
erinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in
1947. Upon graduation, he worked for a time at South
eastern Artificial Breeders Association (now Atlantic
Breeders Coop). He established a large animal practice in
1949 and served the livestock industry of Lancaster
County until 1967. In 1968, Dr. Denlinger joined the
Bureau of Animal Industry. In 1972, he was appointed
Chief of the Bureau, where he instituted many programs
including Equine Infectious Anemia testing and Hog
Cholera Free Status for die Commonwealth. Through his
efforts, the Poultry Health Division of the Bureau was
established.
He has been a member of the United States Animal
Health Association, Northeastern United States Animal
Health Association. Pennsylvania Equine Council, Pen
Denlinger Named To Livestock Hall Of Fame

North American Six-Horse Classic Series
The North American Six-Horse Hitch Classic Series is
the ultimate driving event in the heavy horse world. The
Keystone International Livestock Exposition has been
chosen as one of 4S recognized Qualifying shows on the
Classic Series Show circuit. Each year all across Ameri
ca, six-horse hitches perform at state fairs and agricultur-
nsylvania Mastitis Council, Health Committee for the
Farm Show, Pennsylvania how Cholera Advisors Coun
cil, State S'Umonella Committee, Pennsylvania Livestock
Association, Pennsylvania Cattlemans Association and
Pennsylvania Beef Council.
Dr. Denlinger has previously been recognized for his
achievements by the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical
Association. The Pennsylvania Pork Council, Tlie Pen
nsylvania Dairy & Allied Industries Association and the
Pennsylvania Cattlemans Association.
He has been involved with the Pennsylvania Livestock
Association since the early 60’s. He has served the asso
ciation in many leadership roles. He has served as “Sun
day” Chairman of the Food Booth at the Farm Show for
many years and most recently has been chairman of the
Animal Health Committee and active on the Board of
Directors.
Dr. Denlinger is presently employed on a part-time
basis at the Penn National Race Track as State
Veterinarian.
According to Pete Krall, Chairman of the PLA Selec
tion committee, criteria for this prestigious award are:
A person’s contribution to the livestock industry in
general and how the nominee has contributed to the Pen
nsylvania Livestock Association. Involvement of the
individual in his community also plays a key role in the
selection process.
The award presentation will take place during the
Opening Ceremonies on Thursday, September 30,1993.

beyond competing at Qualifying Shows spread across
Canada and the United States. The competition builds to
a climax at the end of the year when the high-point hitch
es are invited to compete in the final competition, the
Classic Series. The winner of the Classic Series All Breed
Trophy is considered by many to be the best six-horse
hitch in the world.
The stated goals for the Classic Series are “to increase
the number of draft hitches on the show circuit” and to
“increase public awareness of the sport of driving heav
ies, thereby expanding development of the draft breed
industry”. Thirteen Six-Horse Hitches will be in the ring
at one time for the competition.
The Hitches competing include: Pennwood Percherons
of PA, Live Oak Planation Clydesdales of FLA, John
Schwab of PA, Ro-Lin-On Clydesdales of PA, Grand
view Clydesdales of PA, Grandview Clydesdales of IN,
Richard Bartlett of NY, Aaron Lundy of NY, Rovenolt’s
Stables of PA. Sterling Farms bf ML JJ*. Farm of IL, and
the sport of driving draft horses is continuing to grow and
find favor with audiences across the continent The Class
ic Scries competition offers incentives for exhibitors and
encourage breeders of quality hitch horses.
The stylish driving horses seen in the ring today are the
result of countless hours of preparation and care that cul
minate in the brilliant performances you will witness dur
ing this Classic Series Qualifying Show Competition.
The real winner of the Classic Six-Horse Hitch Series
is the spectator. The show will be held on Saturday even
ing, October 2.1993 in the large arean of the Farm Show
Complex. The competition will be held in conjunction
with the popular “Challenge of the Breeds” Competition.
A total of 325 draft horses are entered.
The Keystone International Livestock Exposition will
be held September 30-October 4, at the Farm Show Com
plex in Harrisburg, PA.
