PA FFA Golf Tournament Draws Celebi
DENVER (Lancaster) Why
do celebrities get involved in golf
tournaments? Because they are
paid, you say. Think again, in the
case of the Boss’s Fore FFA Golf
Tournament being held October
4th at Hawk Valley Golf Club in
Denver, Pennsylvania. Any cele
brities involved in this particular
tournament love agriculture and
know first hand what the FFA
organization can do in training
leaders for ag leadership of tomor
row. Furthermore, they are donat
ing their time to a cause they
believe in.
Dick Vermeil, former head
coach of the Philadelphia Eagles
and now ABC Sports commenta
tor, grew up in the fertile soils and
wine country of California. “I can
recall my brother, Stan’s, FFA
SOE Project, a young bull by the
name of ‘ldiot’. I can tell you that
was one FFA project that lived up
to his name,” says Vermeil, laugh
ing at Idiot’s antics during his
tenure on the Vermeil Farm. Dick
Vermeil, years later is still living
on beautiful Pennsylvania farm
acreage, in Chester County.
Greg Gross, Philadelphia Phill
ies, is a York County native,
involved in horse operations, both
in Pennsylvania and Florida.
‘There are many sports figures
that have been connected with
agricultural operations here in
Pennsylvania... Gene Gerber has a
dairy farm in Elizabethtown, Dal
las Green has a farm in Chester
County. Claude Osteen had a
chicken farm in Lebanon County,
Jeff Hostettler, professional foot
ball quarterback, has a farm near
Johnstown and the list could go on
and on.
Gross states further, "I feel by
