Vicki Stahl Wears Crown For Somerset Fair GAY N. BROWNLEE Somerset Co. Correspondent MEYERSDALE (Somerset Co.) Vicki Stahl was chosen as the 1993 Somerset Co. Fair Queen following the vesper service which officially opened this year’s big agricultural fair. She was crowned by Christy Sanner, the 1992 fair queen. First runner-up was Jill Clites. The other contestants were Valer ie Castro and Bobbi Darr. Stahl, 19, is the daughter of George and Audrey Stahl, Somer set, and a sophomore at the Waynesburg College. No stranger to the county fair or interacting with the public, she is a 10-year member of the Steaks and Chops 4-H Club, and showman of steers and pigs at the fair. Two times her animals were named the grand champion steer. A past winner of the state 4-H public speaking contest, she is both a former Maple Princess and Somerset Co. Dairy Princess. Her savvy in forensics took her all the way to national qualification. Clites. 17, wrote a special poem about the Somerset Co. Fair and recited it for the grandstand audi ence during the contest. Clad in a vivid red satin gown of her own construction that propelled her through local and regional fashion revues, Clites was sponsored by the Milksquirts 4-H Club and the Berlin-Brothersvalley FFA. The daughter of Tim and Sue Clites, Berlin, she is active in the county fair with dairy and market lambs. Through the years, she’s had numerous sewing projects. Valerie Castro, 17. is the (laughter of Donald and Vernice Castro, Berlin, and member of the Valley 4-H Club. Both photography and sewing projects have allowed her to prove her skills in the respective fields, taking her to state and national competitions. Bobbi Darr, also 17, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Darr, Somerset. A lover of the equine set, Darr is a member of the Horse and Rider 4-H Club, DorMel Farms and the Somerset Co. Saddle Club. She’s done well in public and extemporaneous speaking as well as livestock and horse judging, which found her winning in the county, regional and state compe titions. Outgoing fair queen Sanner, the daughter of Lynn and Debbie San ner, Rockwood, is enrolled at the Shippensburg University where she is studying computer science. Brad Bodary, Flint, Michigan, pleased the grandstanders with his mime performance prior to the in troduction of the four contestants. Asked how long it took him to learn not to laugh while miming, he said it took a long period of in tense discipline. Ann Truitt Kopnitsky from Clarion Co. is also very active in her county fair. She lives on a farm and is a learning support teacher. Carol Babinsack, a member of the Fulton Co. Fair board, was the third judge. She teaches preschool developmentally delayed children in the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit Mary Will and her daughter, Wendy, Berlin, coordinated the contest.
