However, I’ve learned that our grandchil dren in other states started school August 23rd. Our daughter drives her kindergartner as the child does not want to go on the bus. When I went to school* I did not have a choice. I walked almost a mile to a two-room brick building. Today I wonder how I even man aged to find the school as there were several turns before I got to the main road. And, I went alone as my mother had several young ones at home. In Georgia the PTA members run the library and they also pay for a school nurse. Here we expect that service to be provided and our taxes are proportionately high. However, I do remember that J Ida’s Notebook Ida Risser f when our oldest daughter was in sixth grade, she ran the library as there was no librarian that year. She enjoyed the job as her lessons didn’t keep her busy. Her school bus stop was well over a mile from our secluded farmhouse and so I drove her the first day. She skipped off without a backward glance. I sat in the car and shed a few tears as she glee fully hopped on the bus. But, not all children have the smae attitude toward school. Our son was shy and had a hard time adjusting to school. He also had a teacher who appeared to hate little children and treated them accordingly. After a rough start, he managed to do all right and now is the manager of the largest egg processing plant in the state of Virginia.
