A hundred and forty swine were auctioned for a total sum of $43,257. Jillian Ickes, Rockwood, saw her grand champion go to First Philson Bank, Berlin for $1,098, at $4.50 per lb. The York X weighed 250 lbs. The reserve grand champion of Matthew Fletcher, Rockwood was sold for $3.50 per lb. to Riverside and BiLo Markets for a total of $Bl2. Giant Eagle. Somerset paid $2.50 per lb. for the group champ ion to give Mandy Decker of Gar rett $525. Dclan Chevy paid $334.50 for the other group champ of Kami Hillegass. The sale average with the champions was $1.39. Without the champs it dropped a mere four cents to $1.35 which indicates consistently good per pound prices throughout the swine sale. In 1992 both swine champions brought $3.75 per lb. AJ. Walker, of Walker Farm Service, Somerset, well-known for his great support of the Junior Livestock Sale, as in many times past, was again the premier buyer. Walker spent $11,662.65 on the market animals sold by the local 4-H and FFA members. / And the generosity of the buy ers boded well for seven local vol unteer fire departments Sipes ville, Somerset, Meyersdale, Salisbury, Rockwood, New Cen terville and Berlin all of whom received donated animals. Rather than keeping the county bred steer it purchased, Hoss’s donated it to die Children’s Aid Home, Somerset. Other recipients were a mis sionary, the Area Agency On Aging, Somerset Co.
